Dr. Bakshi Ram (Padma Shri Awardee)
Dr. Bakshi Ram
- Born: 1 July 1959
- Education: B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, M.Sc. (Agriculture) in Plant Breeding, and Ph.D. (Agriculture) from CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. He was a Gold Medalist in both B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes.
- Former Director, ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore (2014–2021) and Director, UP Council of Sugarcane Research, Shahjahanpur (2013–2014).
- Developed and released several high-yielding sugarcane varieties, including the highly successful Co 0238 (Karan 4), which revolutionized sugarcane productivity and sugar recovery in North India.
- Published more than 435 scientific papers, articles, and technical publications related to sugarcane breeding and crop improvement.
- Recipient of the Padma Shri (2023) for his outstanding contribution to Indian agriculture and sugarcane research.
- Continues to guide farmers and the sugar industry after retirement, promoting improved sugarcane productivity and profitability.
